Жива ли Dead Island 2 сейчас?

Ответ на этот вопрос у издателя только один: «Dead Island 2 все еще в разработке!». Больше об игре неизвестно ничего. Никто, кроме вовлеченных сотрудников, не знает, на каком этапе разработки находится сиквел, имеет ли он что-то общее с первоначальной версией от Yager и когда мы сможем увидеть хоть какие-то материалы по игре.

В апреле в Сети появился слух о том, что Dead Island 2 выйдет как на текущем поколении консолей, так и на PS5 и Xbox Series X. Об этом стало известно из вакансий на сайте текущего разработчика проекта. Dambuster искала арт-директора, который уже выпустил хотя бы одну AAA-игру, и теперь готов взяться за «новаторскую игру для текущего и следующего поколения платформ».

Учитывая бесконечные передачи Dead Island 2 из одной студии в другую можно сделать вывод, что издатель сам не знает, какую игру он хочет видеть. Ясно только то, что Deep Silver и THQ Nordic действительно планировали сделать качественную игру, которая бы понравилась всем фанатам оригинала, но, к сожалению, перестарались.

Постоянные переносы и смены разработчиков не могут не огорчать фанатов. Осознание того факта, что последние материалы по Dead Island 2 датируются 2014 годом тоже не предвещают ничего хорошего, но хочется верить, что, когда игра выйдет, с ней все будет не так плохо, как кажется сейчас, ведь производственный ад может не только сжечь проект, но и закалить его. Надеемся, издатель сдержит свое слово и мы действительно увидим «крутейшую игру про зомби».

John Morgan

John Morgan is the new playable character in the game Dead Island: Riptide. He was a Sergeant of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and is an expert in hand-to-hand combat.
He was on vacation until he was caught up in the outbreak and then taken to a military ship within the Banoi peninsula, which unfortunately became shipwrecked near Palanai Island. John was imprisoned due to the fact that he refused to kill innocent civilians and, once he was bitten, he learned early on that he was immune to the virus.

John Morgan’s expertise is in hand-to-hand weapons like Brass Knuckles, with additional skills that greatly improve his speed and stamina, as well as healing him on each critical hit. John is capable of going toe to toe with almost any type of enemy in single combat, with a number of skills that help him keep away from large groups or break them up with stun-based attacks. He can still fare well without a weapon, although this is inadvisable when fighting against multiple undead enemies.

Dead Island: Riptide

After landing the helicopter aboard the HMAS Avenger, a military patrol ship located off the coast of Banoi, Charon is arrested along with Yerema and the Banoi survivors and relocated to another destination. However, Yerema was transported to another lab outside the archipelago in order to ensure the experiments of the Consortium (the same organization that hired Charon and manipulated Colonel Ryder White and the events of Banoi and Palanai) to weaponize her condition for profit would continue unhindered.

The secret files that can be found and collected throughout the game specify that Serpo was ordered by the Consortium to send Charon to their headquarters for debriefing. This confirms that Charon was not arrested nor aboard the HMAS Avenger or on the island of Palanai when the outbreaks occurred but was instead relocated to the organization’s headquarters. These files also detail the organization’s suspicions that Charon has his own agenda which does not directly align with the plans of the organization. While the organization is primarily motivated to weaponize and test the virus and develop a vaccine in order to ensure that it can be sold to various militaries throughout the globe for massive profit, Charon is only concerned in spreading the virus throughout the world as a twisted form of revenge for the organization’s role in the death of his father.

This was previously hinted in the original Dead Island, where Charon released the laboratory infected to kill Dr. West and his associates when the scientist revealed his intentions to create a vaccine under the orders of the organization. Charon’s logs in Escape Dead Island further establish that Charon’s entire career as an expert hacker working for various terrorist organizations was simply part of his plans to be noticed by the organization and recruited for his skills. Charon’s end goal was to effectively infiltrate the organization to destroy them from the inside out, with the rest of the world serving as collateral damage, with the very same biological weapons they hoped to profit from.

With Charon relocated back at the organization’s headquarters, it has yet to be seen what his or the organization’s next move will be.

Escape Dead Island

While he doesn’t make a physical appearance in the game, he has left behind a series of logs, which act as one of the game’s collectibles. Through these logs you find out what his motives for the outbreak are and what his goals are. From these logs, you discover that he found out about GeoPharm’s nefarious goals and decided to rise up against them. When he fought back, however, GeoPharm experimented on and killed his family, both his mother and his father who was working at GeoPharm. He abandoned GeoPharm and joined a secret organization to take them down from within. He wants to unleash their creations on the world as revenge for their destruction of his family. His only physical appearance in the game is during a cutscene in the prologue when Kilo 2 kills the mole within the GeoPharm labs and talks to Charon over the phone the mole was using.

Красочный трейлер, яркое солнце и скорая дата релиза… Тогда планировалось, что игра увидит свет уже в первой половине 2015 года. Амбиции разработчиков поражали, но, как мы с вами знаем, все пошло немного не по плану.

Сиквел должен был отправить нас с тропического острова в не менее яркую Калифорнию. Вместо кооператива на 4 игроков, было анонсировано совместное прохождение на 8 человек. Крафт оружия должен был стать куда более вариативным и разнообразным, чем в оригинале. Геймплей, показанный в августе 2014 на Gamescom подкрепил обещания разработчиков и заставил всех с нетерпением ждать Dead Island 2.

Trivia

• The game was not released in Germany due to the amount of violence. Dead Island was sold in some German online stores such as Amazon Germany for a limited time. It was indexed in November 2011.
• Sam B and Angel are the only characters in the game to call zombies by their actual names.
• While zombies sometimes carry usable weapons, this does not appear to affect the amount of damage they do, although it may slightly increase their reach. When zombies throw their weapons at the player, it should be noted that they will not detonate propane tanks.
• Despite the Infected being able to climb objects, they cannot climb on top of cars or onto roofs of buildings, and they appear to be unable to use ladders.
• Zombies are never shown to eat the flesh of any live, moving victims (outside of the game’s trailer). They either wait until their victim is incapacitated or dead before consuming them.
• Also, if the Hero is knocked down, zombies will not attack. They will patiently wait for the player to get up.
• In the Tape Recording #08, it is mentioned that the car hit an infected orangutan. However, infected animals are never encountered in game.
• There are no infected children in the game because rating systems like the ESRB disallow depictions of violence against children. Still, there are three examples of undead children mentioned, though they aren’t seen in game: the Daughter from the trailer, the ten-year-old boy Andrew Meisner had to kill in Ryder White’s Campaign DLC and a six-year-old girl mentioned in Tape Recording #06.
• Zombies are susceptible to drowning. If a zombie’s head is submerged it will take damage over time, but will often not die unless heavily damaged. Fortunately, drowned zombies do not become Floaters or Drowners.
• Zombies will almost always die when set aflame (apart from Floaters, which are fireproof). Even if the fire doesn’t kill them, they will be left with such little health that one hit from most weapons will finish them off.
• Though officially unknown, it is speculated that the special infected came to be through existing genetic mutations interacting with their infection or as a result of the locations they were in at the time they were infected.

Логан Картер

Но положительной стороной Логана является то, что он хорошо разбирается в каждой специализации, а это означает, что он может хорошо работать на более поздних этапах игры — он работает еще лучше, если вы знаете, что делаете с его умениями. Я пытался играть за Логана, но мне всегда казалось, что игровой процесс с ним скучный и не такой мощный, поэтому он занимает 5-е место. 

Escape Dead Island (2014)

Следующая часть серии игр Dead Island отошла от кооперативной концепции: студия Fatshark выпустила одиночное приключение, проливающее свет на причины появления зомби-вируса. Но немногочисленные достоинства игры не смогли затмить слабый сюжет, примитивный геймплей и неудачное применение сел-шейдинг графики. Зато покупатели предзаказа получали приятный, на первый взгляд, бонус – код для участия в бета-тестировании Dead Island 2… которого так и не случилось.

Logan Carter

Logan

Logan Carter is the Throwing Weapons expert and the «Jack of all Trades» of the team. His Fury Skill allows him to throw an infinite amount of knives at nearby enemies.

Most of his skills are inclined towards improving his throwing ability and how he should be versatile in general. He gains skills that are unique to him such as being able to retrieve a thrown weapon without needing to pick it up again and inflicting damage on multiple targets with a single throw. He also has skills that make him more effective with both edged and blunt weapons. He also is the only Hero with the more reliable bonus from using alcohol. His greatest weakness is his low stamina which, despite hampering his ability to run and fight in melee, is somewhat meaningless since throwing does not consume stamina. 

Unlike the other Heroes, Logan is much better suited at using the developer items due to the fact that thrown weapons do not lose durability. He can use the Mindblowing Military Knife to pop five Walkers or Infected in a single throw with a chance for the weapon to boomerang back, allowing him to do it again without having to pick up the weapon. He can also use the Homerun Baseball Bat to knock away multiple targets which allows him to avoid being overwhelmed by large numbers of zombies.

If the player does not intend to use the developer items due to how they unfairly break the game drastically, they can still depend on the more natural weapons in game. Because of his skill with both blunt and edged weapons, he can use weapons such as Eviscerator for a damage dealing throwable, or a Sledgehammer with Tesla Mod for incapacitation. His options are almost limitless.

Escape Dead Island Zombies

Spitter

Main article: Spitter

Spitters are another type of ranged zombie, similar to Floaters, as they keep at range and spit toxic substances from their mouths. However, the Spitter is far more agile than the Floater, as well as being far thinner due to how they were created. Spitters also act as a sort of ‘lookout’ for nearby zombies, as Spitters are often encountered on higher vantage points overlooking wide areas, so they they can both spot targets easier and also run away safer than if they were on low ground.

Bouncer

Main article: Bouncer (zombie)

Bouncers are tough, unique zombies encountered on Narapela. They’re fast like Infected and have a unique attack style. They can jump long distances and appear smarter than the average zombie, as they keep hidden and out of range before they attack, leaping in, attacking a few times before running off again.

Siren

Main article: Siren

Sirens are very much a support style Zombie, one which assists fellow, more common and weaker zombies rather than one that works alone or as a fighter. While other zombies like Shamblers distract the survivor as fodder, a Siren sits behind them and disorientates the survivor with loud, piercing screams to distract them and put them off-balance to a point where the other zombies can get in a bite or slash to infect them. The Siren itself can still attack, and is far quicker than the common Shambler, but they will only do so after the survivor has been either disorientated by the scream or distracted by other zombies.

Shadow Zombies

Main article: Shadow Zombies

Shadow zombies are unique in the fact that they technically don’t exist. They are a construct of Cliff Calo’s failing mental state and likely are only visible to him. They come in an array of different types, but all follow the archetype of the original Zombies. If the zombie is an Infected, it will behave like an Infected. If it looks like a Shambler, it will act like a Shambler. This makes Shadow zombies difficult to spot, as their unique behaviour only occurs after you go for the attack.

Abstract Zombies

Main article: Abstract Zombies

Abstract zombies are unique in that they technically don’t exist. Like shadow zombies, they are a concept that Cliff made up due to his destabilising mind. However, these are far more crazy because while shadow zombies look like normal zombies on the outside, abstract zombies are almost like crystal or electrical forces. They still follow the behaviour of what they’re trying to represent, but they look far different.

Dweller

Main article: Dweller

Dwellers are a strange zombie but one of the deadliest. Out of all the variants, mutations and specialisations across the Banoi Archipelago, the Dweller is for certain the most dangerous. Dwellers are unique in that they have an interesting method of detecting prey. Their eyesight is terrible, which results in their hearing being superb. Complimenting this, they are tougher than Butchers and just as fast as them and Infected while doing more damage than a Butcher. Their one downside is that they have no ranged attack, which prevents them being a true apex predator.

Cliff Calo

Cliff Calo

Cliff Calo is the sole protagonist of the spin-off Escape Dead Island, and thus does not have a class title. The son of media mogul Tom Calo, Cliff was never interested in the family business until his father handed the reins of the company over to his younger sister. Feeling insulted, Cliff sets out to prove his worthiness by illegally going to Banoi, knowing that his father is obsessed with the Banoi crisis and would greatly reward exclusive insight into the truth behind the outbreak for his news channels. However, he instead decides to head to the nearby island of Narapela instead. Cliff is best friends with Devan Mavropani, and he has ambitions to become a comic book artist someday. However, the stress of the zombie outbreak snaps Cliff’s hold on reality, and he becomes an unreliable narrator, as his experiences on Narapela are tainted by insanity.

• Charon has worked for many terrorist and criminal organizations, such as Al-Qaeda and the Yakuza.
• It was initially unclear why Charon intended to increase the spread of the virus, but Escape Dead Island reveals his goals act as a twisted form of revenge over GeoPharm and the Palm Garden Order for their role in the death of his father.
• Kevin’s secret identity as Charon was subtly implied during the ending when he smiled at the prospect of the world never being the same as he flew the helicopter.

Особенности Dead Island Механики

• Противник. Целые толпы разъяренных мутантов и зомби будут атаковать вас. Лучше всего бороться с ними в дневное время суток. Тогда ваши враги становятся более уязвимы.
• Оружие. Найдите рациональное применение палкам и битам, из которых можно сделать неплохое оружие. Хотя вы сами сможете заняться модернизацией ваших найденных в игре предметов.
• Кооперативный режим. В таком режиме вам проще будет сражаться чудовищами. Хотя и в одиночку можно будет попробовать пройти игровые уровни, уничтожая орды монстров и зарабатывая дополнительные очки.
• Развитие героя. Вы можете развивать своего персонажа – прокачивать его боевые способности.

Особенности Dead Island

• Игра выполнена с видом от первого лица, поэтому вы сможете реально оценить, как жутко быть лидером команды и отдавать приказы, не зная, что вас еще ждет впереди.
• Многопользовательский режим в игре стал также доступен – теперь вы можете в любое время возложить лидерские обязанности на одного из ваших четырех дружных товарищей. Но их нужно обучить всем тонкостям командования. Для этого переключитесь в режиме обучения.

Main Plot

The game’s story picks up right where the initial Dead Island left off, with the survivors landing on a military ship after their flight from Banoi. However, they are kept imprisoned inside the ship and experimented on individually. The characters thought that they had escaped the terrors of Banoi and survived the approaching apocalypse, but their fate takes a turn for the worst. After you meet the new character John Morgan, you have to fight through the boat but the only problem is that you lose all weapons, ammo and blueprints.

The virus then spreads throughout the carrier and the nightmare begins anew. With the crew wiped out by the infection, the Heroes escape their quarters. A shipwreck follows soon after. The survivors find themselves on the island of Palanai, located in the Banoi archipelago. Palanai has also been struck by the infection, and the island has been overrun with zombies. The survivors are found on the beach by a woman named Harlow Jordan. She instructs them to head to the survivor camp called Paradise Survival Camp.

As they arrive the camp is under attack by Infected and the Heroes must help defend the camp, building debris to stop the infected for a little while. After the attack the main plan is to reach the city of Henderson to contact the Military for extraction. They head to Halai Village to see if there are any boats available to take to Henderson but the survivors there tell them that all the ships left long ago. They try the road but it is washed out. The only choice left is to take the underground tunnels that the Japanese built in World War II, but they are flooded. They build a water pump to drain the tunnels but they have to defend the area for the noise attracts the undead.  Once in the tunnels they must fight through undead and living enemies. As they reach the crossing to Henderson they find the station has been taken over by Convicts so with no choice they have to kill them. Once the ferry has been called the Heroes must defend the station, and once the ferry arrives they must engage the Screamer.

They finally arrive in Henderson only to find the city completely overrun with infected. Even the military base fell to the undead hordes. The Heroes secure the old movie theatre as a base of operations for the time being. The Heroes check out the base to contact the army to extract them, but the only response they get is from Frank Serpo, claiming that the colonel is dead and that he is sending a chopper. As the chopper arrives Serpo tries to trick the Heroes into boarding the chopper so he can leave the normal people behind to die. Not falling for it, Colonel Hardy tries to board so he can leave but is shot by a soldier. As a result of this, Logan shoots the chopper down using a rocket launcher. The chopper crashes at the Old Fort and the heroes go to see if it is salvageable but the chopper is completely destroyed.

They follow a trail of blood to an injured pilot who tells them that Serpo killed one of the pilots to distract the Infected so he could save his own life. After that they find Serpo who tells them that Harlow is a terrorist who was planning on selling the Virus to make «a shit load of money» and that she is in the quarantine zone at the docks. The Heroes break open the quarantine zone gates and rush to the docks where they find all the human survivors dead and Harlow ranting.  She says the government unleashed the virus on Palanai to test the lethality of the new bio-weapon they planned on using, and that the immune could never leave or the whole world would end up like Banoi and Palanai.

Harlow injects herself with the mutagen and fights them. The heroes then take a dose of the mutagen to defeat Harlow. After the fight they find a boat and prepare to leave when Serpo enters the room. He pleads for the immune to come with him saying he could cure them from the mutagen. Instead, they leave him to his fate and he is mauled and killed by Infected. As the boat is leaving it is shown that the hospital camp and movie theatre have been overrun by Infected. A Ram busts through the security shutters 6 days later, and a similar boat is seen docking at an unknown island as news reports are saying that Palanai and Banoi are returning to normal. As inhabitants approach the arrived boat, retching and gurgling sounds of zombies can be heard inside the boat, leaving you curious about the current status of our heroes.

Dead Island: Riptide (2013)

Через полтора года после выпуска первой части студия Techland выпустила игру Dead Island: Riptide – формально продолжение (но без статуса сиквела), а по сути, рескин оригинальной Dead Island. Нововведений было слишком мало: то же место действия (ладно, почти то же – соседний остров), всего один новый герой – рукопашный боец Джон Морган, немного нового оружия, видов зомби, навыков, да система динамической погоды – вот и весь новый контент.

Конечно, этого хватало, чтобы изголодавшиеся по кооперативным приключениям игроки смогли продлить пребывание в тропическом раю еще на пару недель, но точно не было достаточно для проекта, продаваемого за полную стоимость. Зато у Dead Island: Riptide было интересное коллекционное издание Zombie Bait Edition, куда входила, в том числе, статуэтка окровавленного женского тела без рук, ног и головы – немногие решались приобрести такой комплект в подарок своей второй половинке.
