How to get better Minecraft enchantments

Minecraft enchantments will generally be much higher the higher your experience level, so don’t expect the best enchantments should you manage to craft one of these tables early on.

You can also increase your enchantment level by placing a bookshelf next to the enchanting table – with a buffer zone of one block. To access the very best enchantments you’ll need to create a full bookshelf border – 15 in total. The best way to place these is to create a second row of bookshelf blocks should you run out of space.

If you don’t have a specific item you want to enchant then you can create an enchanted book, which effectively saves the enchantment for use later. As for changing enchantments in Minecraft, there’s not much you can do to manipulate your choices as it’s based off you experience level, your enchantment seed, and the item type you’re trying to enchant. You can fudge the options you’re shown by reducing the number of bookshelves connected to the table, but this doesn’t affect the possibilities.

The best way to store up Minecraft enchantments to craft a max enchanted weapon is to keep enchanting books. With the highest level enchantments available to you just keep enchanting books until you have a selection of max level enchantments, then take your desired item and the books to an anvil and pair them together. Bow Enchantments[edit | edit source]

Fire Aspect’s bow counterpart, Flame, will set the opponent on fire on hit with an arrow. Unlike Fire Aspect, there is only one level. As with any fire weapon, cooked goods are dropped from peaceful farming mobs. Flame is useful for dealing extra damage along with keeping other players from being able to sprint (as taking damage from the environment ceases a player’s ability to sprint). Flame bows can also be used as a ranged detonator for TNT, as well as also being able to light campfires. It can have a power level of up to I. A hack for Flame enchantments without enchanting is to fly the arrow through lava, as this will set the arrow on fire. Flying it through water extinguishes the arrow. In rainy weather, Flame will immediately be extinguished by the rain.

Power is an enchantment for the bow that is like Sharpness for the sword, dealing more damage to your foes on hit with an arrow. The higher the power level is, the stronger the hit will be. After collecting a few power levels on a bow, it will eventually do enough damage to take out unarmored foes, like a creeper, in a single shot. It is the most common bow enchantment, and it can have a power level of up to V.

Punchedit | edit source

Punch is the counterpart of Knockback for bows. Punch will hit the opponent farther when this enchantment is applied on the bow. Although the bow already has an original small amount of knockback, increasing the amount of knockback allows for easier medium-range combat, knocking enemies farther, giving a player time to reload and fire again. It can have a power level of up to II.

Unbreakingedit | edit source

Unbreaking gives the bow the chance to not use up a durability point. The higher the level, the greater the chance that this will happen. Unbreaking can be applied to any item that has durability like armor, tools, and weapons. It can have a power level of up to III.

Bookshelf placement[]

Nearby bookshelves raise the available enchantment levels; without any bookshelves, the experience level requirement never exceeds 8.

In order to have an effect, a bookshelf must be placed exactly 2 blocks, laterally, off the enchanting table and be on the same level or one block height above the table, and the 2-high space between the bookshelf and table must be air (even a torch, snow cover or carpet blocks the effect), where «between» is as shown in the following diagrams (the white spaces are air, and the do not matter):

The glyph particles, which fly from bookshelves, follow different rules and may appear even if the bookshelves are not enhancing the table.

There are many possible bookshelf arrangements that can reach the enchantment limit. A simple method is to surround the enchanting table with a 1-block high square of bookshelves with an empty space anywhere on the perimeter:

Another alternative that is now available is to build a ‘library corner’ where each bookshelf is two blocks high, as in the plan below. This arrangement gives space for 16 shelves, which is one more than needed, so if the corner bookshelf column cannot be seen, removing one of the two bookshelves in that does not have any effect, either technically or visually.

Selecting an enchantment level

As enchantments offered depend on the enchantment level and the enchantment level depends on the number of active bookshelves, an easy way to change the enchantments offered is to disable bookshelves by placing torches between them and the enchanting table. That way one can still have the entire ‘ring’ of bookshelves around the table but get lower-level enchantments. Breaking the torches restores the effect of the bookshelves.

Enchanting Procedure

To enchant, you need an enchantment table, several experience points, and an item you wish to enchant. As of 1.8 The Bountiful Update, lapis lazuli is needed too. Up to 15 bookshelves may be put around the table to allow higher-level enchantments. First, set up the enchanting area. After placing the enchantment table, bookshelves should be put 1 block away from all sides of the enchantment table (leaving a block of air on all sides). Carpet or torches laid on the floor between the table and bookshelves will block the bookshelf bonus from reaching the enchantment table. Since Minecraft only checks for a maximum of 15 nearby bookshelves, there is no reason to put more bookshelves. When you finish this process, you should see white symbols floating towards the book and table. That means there are more enchantments added for you to use.

It’s impossible to enchant books with Mending from an Enchanting Table.

The Enchantment table can be used by right-clicking it and placing the item to be enchanted in a slot in the enchanting interface. Lapis lazuli must also be added to a separate slot in the interface. You will then get 3 enchanting options with varying levels, needing up to 30 experience levels, and subtracting up to 3 levels. the higher the number of experience points is used for the enchantment, it’s more likely the item being enchanted will get a better enchantment and more than 1 enchantment. However, this is not guaranteed. 
Enchanting a book will make an enchanted book with a random enchantment stored in it. Books can absorb any enchantment the enchantment table can bestow, but the book only acts as a place to hold the enchantment in your inventory before it’s transferred to a real item. In order to make use of an enchanted book, it must be put in an anvil along with the item to be enchanted. The book will be consumed and the item will (if compatible) get the enchantment the book had stored. Beware that this also takes XP. In Creative, you can use the book enchanting method to enchant any item you wish, with any enchantment you wish. Some of these item-enchant combos can be completely useless (i.e.: paper with Silk Touch, a sword with Flame, etc.). You can add additional enchantments to an item by using one item to fix another of the same ilk on an anvil. Any enchantments from the sacrificed item will be applied to the fixed item if the enchant is meant to be used on that ilk of item. This process can be repeated to keep adding additional enchantments.

Minecraft best enchantments

What are the best enchantments to use in Minecraft? While preference plays a huge part there are a few enchantments that no player should be without.

Mending is the most useful enchantment, especially for tools and weapons you’re likely to use a lot. Wear and tear costs a lot of resources the longer you play in Minecraft, with successive repairs increasing in cost. Mending repairs your equipped weapon by picking up XP bubbles. So, every time you slay one of the countless Minecraft mobs the XP bubbles that pop out will immediately repair the weapon you just used. Just switch to your pickaxe before hoovering up the XP and you can keep your diamond pickaxe in good condition.

In a similar vein, Unbreaking increases your item’s durability, meaning you can spend longer using it before having to go on a mender bender.

For weapons it’s generally just easier to use an enchantment like maxed out Sharpness or Power than a specialist enchantment like Smite or Impaling as these will buff your overall power and you won’t need to carry around several swords. For tools you’ll want Mending and Unbreaking, but also Efficiency and Fortune.

Finally, when it comes to the best Minecraft armor enchantments, you always want Feather Falling on your boots to reduce fall damage and maxed out Protection on all your armor pieces.

Tweaks

Music improvements

When a music disc plays in a jukebox, background music will be stopped and prevented from playing so that you don’t get two tracks playing at the same time.

Creative background music may now play in survival mode. In addition, the delay between ambient music tracks has been shortened.

Armor invisibility

Leather and chaimmail armor is now completely invisible and does not increase mob awareness when drinking a Potion of Invisibility, giving you a bit more protection while you ninja.

Automatic recipe unlock

All recipes will be available on login. This was the first feature written for 1.14 before Quark was developed as I couldn’t live without it. Quark’s implementation is better, so this feature will automatically disable itself if Quark is present.

Right-clicking dirt with a shovel turns it into grass path.

If Quark is present, this feature is disabled by default.

Hoe Harvesting

Right-click with a hoe to quickly harvest and replant a fully-grown crop.

If Quark is present, this feature is disabled by default.

A button to automatically stack and tidy inventories.

If Quark is present, this feature is disabled by default.

Portable Crafting

If you have a crafting table in your inventory, you can open the 3×3 crafting grid with an inventory button or by pressing the key (configurable in control settings) without having to place the crafting table down.

Shulker Box tooltips

Hovering over a filled Shulker Box in the inventory shows a tooltip with the contents.

If Quark is present, this feature is disabled by default.

Sleep improvements

By default only one player needs to sleep in order to end the night.

In addition, a configuration option has been added for the sleep animation to be finished more quickly.

If Quark is present, this feature is disabled by default.

Stackable potions

Potions, water bottles, potion bases (mundane, awkward etc) and their splash/lingering varieties can stack up to 16, making them sortable and more convenient to carry around.

Use Totem of Undying from inventory

As long as a Totem of Undying is in your inventory (rather than specifically your main- or off-hand) it will be consumed to protect you from death.

You make blocks of iron from nine iron ingots. You can make these ingots by smelting iron ore over a furnace, or just a simple campfire. Here’s how you get enchanted books to use with that shiny new anvil:

  • Looting: enchanted books are available in stronghold and temple chests
  • Fishing: though not the fastest way, there is a small chance you can fish an enchanted book as a treasure item
  • Enchanting: you can create an enchanted book yourself, using a book and three lapiz lazuli. You do need an enchantment table for this, however.
  • Trading: librarian villagers can sell you enchanted books for a number of emeralds, based on the enchantment. You can get emeralds in chests, by trading with villages, and by mining emerald ore with an iron pickaxe or better. Emerald ore is often found near lava.

How to build an enchanting table

To craft a Minecraft enchanting table, you first need the ingredients. Here’s your shopping list:

  • 4 obsidian blocks
  • 2 diamonds
  • 1 book

To get the obsidian, you need a diamond pickaxe: you can pilfer the diamonds you need for that in the deeper levels of the world, though you may need a bit of luck to stumble across them.

Obsidian, on the other hand, doesn’t require luck to find. What’s more, you can craft it yourself. Obsidian forms when water and lava meet, so grab a bucket and go looking for some of the hot stuff.

You can make books by combining three pieces of paper and some leather, or by destroying book cases. Either way, they’re pretty easy items to get for the Enchanting Table.

Once you have the ingredients, you can combine them using a Crafting Table. Just place the obsidian along the bottom row, then the middle row needs to be: diamond, obsidian, diamond. Finally, put a book in the top-middle space. Then, it’s time to get enchantin’.

Beacons heal friendly mobs

A beacon with the secondary effect of Regeneration will heal all tamed, friendly, and neutral mobs in the area around it.

Beekeepers

Beekeepers are villagers that trade beekeeping items. Their job site is the beehive.

Villages have the chance to spawn with dedicated beekeeper houses.

Chickens drop feathers

Sometimes chickens drop a feather instead of laying an egg. After dropping a feather, the amount of time until another egg or feather drops is reduced by half.

Coral Squid


Coral Squid hang out around coral in warm ocean biomes. They come in 5 different colors and have a chance to drop the corresponding coral color when killed — but you would never dream of killing such a cute little squidlet, right?

Endermite Powder

Endermite Powder has a chance of being dropped from Endermites when killed by a player. Right-click while holding it in the End to help locate an End City.

Lumberjacks

Lumberjacks are villagers that trade wooden items. Their job site is the Woodcutter.

Villages have the chance to spawn with dedicated lumberjack houses.

Mooblooms

The Moobloom is a flower-covered variant of the mooshroom. They spawn in Flower Forest biomes and come in a number of colors and flower varieties.
As they wander, they have a chance of planting a flower of the type they are covered with.

Bees will try and pollinate nearby mooblooms, causing an additional flower to appear on the moobloom’s head.
Once pollinated, you may milk a moobloom using a bowl to obtain a suspicious stew of the type of flower that the moobloom is covered with.

Remove Nitwits

Prevents nitwits from spawning as new villagers. It also converts any nitwits to unemployed villagers in nearby areas.

Sheared Sheep show their color

When a sheep is dyed and then sheared, the wool patches that are seen on the sheep show the actual wool color. By default all sheared sheep appear white, regardless of their actual color.
This feature has been ported from Bedrock Edition.

Snow Golem derp faces

This is part of the Variant Mob Textures feature. Snow Golems can spawn with different “derp” faces, visible when you shear the pumpkin from their head.

Tamed animals no damage

Tamed animals no longer take direct damage from players. They still can suffer secondary effects, such as potion effects from a tipped arrow.

If you are in Creative Mode, this feature is bypassed.

Villagers follow emerald blocks

Villagers are attracted when the player holds a block of emeralds.

If Quark is present, this feature is disabled by default.

Wandering Trader Improvements

Wandering Traders only spawn when there is a signal fire (i.e., a campfire with a hay bale beneath) nearby.
They also sell maps to structures and biomes.

A configuration option is available to make Wandering Traders spawn more frequently.

Armor[]

Take less damage from fire. Not to be confused with the «fire resistance» buff, which gives you full immunity. Cannot be used with protection, blast protection, or projectile protection, except through randomly enchanted armor found off of Better Dungeons «boss» mobs.

Unbreaking

Having a chance to not take durability when being used. The chance is 1/2 for level 1, 2/3 for level 2 and 3/4 for level 3. This means a tool, weapon or armour piece enchanted with Unbreaking III will last four times as long.

Freezes still and flowing water, allowing the player to walk on water. Note that it only works on Frezarite Armor.

Наведите курсор мыши на предмет.

Выполните зачарование, выбрав один из предложенных на экране вариантов. На каждый предмет дается три разных улучшения.

Для улучшения полученного зачарованного предмета можно воспользоваться наковальней. Для того чтобы ее построить, понадобится железо в виде трех блоков и четырех слитков. При помощи наковальни можно не только улучшать предметы, но и объединять их друг с другом. Перед этим стоит убедиться в совместимости их чар.

Fishing Rod Enchantments

Lure

This enchantment means the player doesn’t have to wait as long to catch fish and the chance of getting junk or treasure shrinks. Lure decreases the wait time by seconds. It can have a power level of up to III.

Luck of the Sea

This enchantment will allow a 3% increase in catching «treasure» (enchanted but damaged bows and fishing rods, enchanted books, nametags, Nautilus shells, saddles, or lily pads) and a 1% reduced chance of «junk» (bowl, damaged fishing rod, leather, leather boots, rotten flesh, stick, string, water bottle, bone, ink sac, or tripwire hooks). It can have a power level of up to III. (Note: treasure and junk items will be different in jungle biomes.)

Mending is an enchantment that can be applied to any tool, weapon, or piece of armor. This enchantment will use any experience orbs collected by you to fix the enchanted item. The used orbs will not count toward your experience. If more than 1 item equipped by you has this enchantment, the repair will be performed randomly on 1 of the enchanted items. Mending is the only enchantment that can’t be applied via the enchantment table but can be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. It is 1 of only 2 enchantments that can be applied to any tool, weapon or armor; the other enchantment being Unbreaking. Mending is incompatible with the Infinity enchantment on bows.
