History[]
Class: Reconnaissance VehicleDeveloped: 1988Service: 1990+Vehicles Built: cca 2400Operators: France, Greece, Oman, Benin, Botswana, Cameroon, Djibouti, Gabon, Indonesia, Kuwait, Mexico, Nigeria, Portugal, Qatar, Senegal, Togo and UAEThe VBL is a light, four-wheeled armored fighting vehicle, designed for multiple roles while offering its crew basic small arms protection. It is a compact machine, capable of great speeds and a wide variety of duties, including reconnaissance, liaison tasks or even armored vehicle killing. It was developed by Panhard in the late 1980s and its designation stands for Véhicule Blindé Léger (Light Armored Vehicle). In a way it was designed for the «old» type of war, symmetric warfare where units in such vehicles wouldn’t be the most common target of enemy attention. The original purpose of the program was to replace the American Jeep vehicles still in French service in the late 1970s and to provide the French army with a light and affordable platform for multiple weapons systems. The VBL was accepted in French service in 1990 and has found its way to around a dozen (mostly African) countries. It’s a very popular export item thanks to its ruggedness and versatility. The biggest operators include France (approximately 1400 in service), Greece, and Oman. All in all, around 2400 were built. Over the years, the VBLs in French service were mostly involved in peacekeeping operations for the United Nations, such as those in former Yugoslavia, Lebanon and Somalia, but some saw service in Mali, the Ivory Coast and Afghanistan. The Nigerians used VBLs in counter-insurgency operations as light fighting vehicles (the recon variant armed with a Browning M2 .50 caliber heavy machinegun). This particular model features either a 20mm autocannon turret or a TOW ATGM launcher. The TOW variant is used by Greece.

- Increased the cooldown on Soft-Kill APS systems from 25 seconds to 30
Hard-Kill APS:
- Removed the unlimited charges and reduced them to 6
- Increased the cooldown on Hard-Kill APS systems from 45 seconds to 60
- Increased the APS reload time from +20% to +50% when damaged
Reload Speed Changes
In previous versions of Armored Warfare, many of our upgrades improved «reload speed». The overwhelming majority of these have been changed to «rate of fire» increases. There are three main reasons for this:
- Reload speed upgrades stacked in such a way that adding more of them provided continuously higher efficiency
- For example, a 50% reload time improvement pre-patch actually translated into a +100% DPM increase. Post-patch, a 50% rate of fire increase translates into a 50% DPM increase
- Reload speed benefits were unintuitive. It was hard for players to understand the exact benefit they were getting out of an individual reload speed upgrade, since it was variable based on how many reload speed upgrades you already had
The new «rate of fire» bonuses are both better balanced and easier to understand. Essentially, whatever the % of the rate of fire improvement is, it directly translates to that amount of DPM a vehicle gains. This also holds true for autocannons as it is directly increasing the rate at which you fire projectiles, rather than reducing the salvo reload time.
More information about the background of this change will be published in near future.
Other Changes
- Cannon-fired ATGMs will now reload faster while APS systems have had their cooldowns increased and their number of charges decreased. The overall goal of these changes is to reduce the high effectiveness of APS, while still keeping the system useful in deterring the occasional ATGM. In the future, we will make additional changes to the APS systems in order to better differentiate them.
- The skill-based portion of the Matchmaker has been disabled. The matchmaker will still enforce equal distribution by tier and class, but teams will no longer be further balanced by individual player win-rates.

History[]
Class: Main Battle TankDeveloped: 2011 (ongoing)Service: 2012+Vehicles Built: cca 1400Operators: Russia, Belarus, SyriaThe newest major upgrade to the latest mass-produced T-72 variant is called T-72B3. The T-72B3 upgrade was developed by Uralvagonzavod as a cheaper alternative to the T-90A with the goal of improving the combat value of the T-72B to the T-90A level. By the time the program was signed in 2012, Russia still had around 4000 to 5000 of the 9000 T-72Bs produced available and all were supposed to be refurbished to the T-72B3 standard. One of the biggest upgrades was the vehicle’s firepower. The T-72B3 received a new gun, the 125mm 2A46M-5 smoothbore, which is the same weapon the T-90A has. The autoloader was modified to be able to fire longer APFSDS rounds. The Fire Control System also received a major upgrade in the form of the Belarusian Sosna-U gunner sights with thermal imager. As for its protection, all such upgraded T-72Bs were fitted with the Kontakt-5 ERA. Apart from its base armor and the Kontakt-5 ERA, the T-72B3 can also be protected by the Arena-E APS, but the Russian tanks don’t have it installed. The 46 ton vehicle is powered by the 840hp V-84-1 V12 multi-fuel diesel, allowing it to go as fast as 65 km/h (although the usual combat speed varies between 35km/h and 45 km/h). There are actually two variants of the T-72B3 called Model 2013 and Model 2016. The first one forms the vast majority of the T-72B3s produced. The second variant was built in Omsk and included a number of improvements, such as an improved gun variant (2A46M-5-01), improved engine (1130hp V-92S2F diesel), improved internal electronics, partial Relikt ERA kit (side hull plates) instead of the standard Kontakt-5 and an improved autoloader function.Another improved variant called T-72B3M (sometimes incorrectly called T-72B4) also exists, featuring commander’s panoramic sights, the upgraded engine from Model 2016 and a full set of Relikt armor. A prototype was trialed for the first time in 2011. The modernization process started in October 2012 and is currently ongoing with roughly 1400 vehicles modified to this day (approximately 1000 vehicles are of the 2013 model and 400 vehicles of the 2016 model) and the production is ongoing. Despite some effort, the T-72B3 hasn’t been widely exported so far with 14 tanks sold to Belarus, a few to Syria and with Serbia interested in purchasing 30 vehicles in the future.
Entering a battle[]
Joining a PvE match.
Players can enter a PvE matchmaking queue by selecting a vehicle that they own or an active rental vehicle then select a mission under the Co-Op Missions tab on the HQ screen. Alternatively, clicking the «Action!» button on top of any screens will have the same effect; the game will remember the difficulty option they last played when queuing under this way.
Mission selection and queues are separated not only by difficulty options, but also by Tier pools. Standard PvE missions are split into Tiers 1 to 3, Tiers 4 to 6, and Tiers 7 to 10. Special Operations are split into Tiers 4 to 8 and Tiers 9 to 10.
When entering a queue with a platoon. The Tier difference across all players’ vehicles must not exceed 1. For example, it is permissible to have Tiers 4 and 5 in platoon, but Tiers 3 or 6 in addition to Tiers 4 and 5 are not allowed.

History[]
Class: Medium TankDeveloped: 1983-1985Service: 1985+Vehicles Built: cca 1000-2000Operators: Soviet Union, Russia, Syria, AfghanistanThe T-62 Medium Tank was born from the need to upgrade or replace the aging T-54/55 series in order for Soviet tanks to be able to defeat their new western counterparts in battle. This tank’s 115mm smoothbore gun was a notable upgrade over the earlier rifled D-10T. Originally, the T-62 was supposed to be a stopgap measure before the appearance of the newer T-64 tank from Kharkov, but in the end it was produced in the Soviet Union until 1975 with more than 20 thousand made and it formed the backbone of the Soviet forces for many years. But by the 1970s and 1980s, the vehicle was already showing its age and in the early 1980s, it was decided that a modernization was needed to significantly improve the combat value of the thousands of the T-62 tanks still in Russian service. Its result became known as the T-62M. The most visible change was the armor upgrade in the form of a new set of appliqué armor, which consisted of a 3cm steel plate and 8cm of space, filled with 4 angled layered 5mm steel plates and layers of polyurethane. Its goal was to significantly improve the tank’s protection against guided missiles and HEAT shells in general. The firepower was improved by the introduction of two major improvements, the 9K116-2 Sheksna gun-launched ATGM system (similar to the 100mm Bastion version) and the Volna Fire Control System. The engine was replaced by a more powerful 620hp V-55U one and a number of other improvements were made as well. The exact number of vehicles modified is not known – one plant alone modified around 400 T-62s to this standard, but the number produced in total is likely in low thousands. The T-62Ms weren’t that widely exported either. Many appeared in Afghanistan during the Soviet-Afghan war and were supplied to the local governments. Later, they appeared during the conflicts in Chechnya and, most recently, a number of these tanks were sold to Syria where they were used quite successfully against the anti-government forces.

History[]
Class: Main Battle TankDeveloped: 1988-1991Service: 1992+Vehicles Built: cca 1300-1800 (sources vary, includes license production)Operators: Soviet Union, Russia, India, Iraq, Vietnam, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Turkmenistan and Uganda (allegedly)The T-90 MBT started out as a heavily modified variant of the T-72B. The primary goal of the entire program was to improve the T-72B to T-80U/UD level. It was developed in 1988 in Nizhny Tagil by the Uralvagonzavod design bureau, led by V.V.Potkin, under the designation of Object 188. In early 1989 the vehicle successfully passed state trials, proving to be very reliable, and on March 27, 1991 the Soviet Ministry of Defense recommended that it should become the next main battle tank of the Soviet army. This decision proved fruitless, however, as the results of Operation Desert Storm once again raised the question as to whether the T-72 should actually be modernized. Another delay was caused by the collapse of the Soviet Union.Influenced by the Desert Storm experience, Uralvagonzavod decided to improve the protection of the vehicle even further by adding the new TShU-1 Shtora soft-kill APS to the design. Additional trials were held and this improved Object 188 was accepted into service on October 5, 1992 under the designation T-90. It was the last design to feature the round cast turret, so typical for Soviet MBTs. The original T-90 was mass-produced between 1992 and 1998. The entire production run history is somewhat unclear as at one point production apparently ceased due to Russian military budget cuts. Nevertheless, by 2012, the Russian army had roughly 500 T-90 and T-90A in its inventory and the rest were sold off with multiple countries or license-produced elsewhere, most notably in India.
Gameplay[]
When the matchmaking system successfully finds enough players for a game, the map begins to load while a loading screen displays the composition of each team for the upcoming battle. A 30-second countdown will start when eighty percent of all players have successfully loaded the map. When all players are present while the countdown is still active, the timer will switch to 3 seconds before starting the battle.
Objective
The objective for both teams is to destroy all opponents’ vehicles, or to capture a control point (also known as «base»). The location of control point to capture depends on the subtype of standard PvP match played.
- Standard — Each team holds one control point, and the goal is to capture the enemy’s control point on the other side of the map.
- Encounter — There is one neutral control point located around the center of the map, and both teams should fight for its control.
Mechanics
Standard PvP mode is considered a team deathmatch; there is no respawn available for all players, therefore a vehicle that has been destroyed in-game will remain unplayable until the end of a match. Each battle has a 15-minute time limit. Within that limit one team has to win or lose, otherwise the battle will be declared a draw with reduced rewards for both teams.
In situations where the matchmaker cannot create full-scale teams larger in a timely manner, players in a queue will be placed into a Skirmish match, which features fewer players in a match-up on a reduced size map.
Rewards
When a mission ends, players are presented with a debriefing screen with the battle result. Experience and are rewarded based on the players’ individual performance. The winning team receives higher rewards than the losing team, but players on the losing team who have performed well can also gain substantial rewards.
Players can also earn Epic Medals by fulfilling specific requirements in a PvP match. Earning multiple Epic Medals in a single match can also reward the player with decorative Mastery Flags for the vehicle that participated in the said match.

History[]
Class: Main Battle TankDeveloped: 2018-2020Service: 2020+Vehicles Built: cca 20 (7 confirmed)Operators: USAThe Abrams Main Battle Tank is the current service MBT of the U.S. Army and several other countries. It was developed in the 1970s to replace the aging Patton series in American service. Unlike the failed MBT-70 project, the downfall of which was the widespread use of experimental technologies along with an extremely high price tag, the Abrams was designed to use modern but affordable and reliable components. What made it different from the Patton series was the use of Chobham composite armor and a gas turbine for propulsion, earning it the nickname «Whispering Death».The M1A2C, formerly known as M1A2 SEP v3 (it was renamed to underline the importance of its upgrades), is the current cutting edge version of the Abrams, intended for American military service. This model was first introduced to the public for the first time in 2015 at the AUSA Expo in Washington D.C. and features a large number of improvements over its predecessor that focus on reaction time, all-weather fighting capability and engagement distance. It has a brand new set of next-gen armor, an advanced sensor suite and the ability to fire the advanced AMP multi-purpose round thanks to an upgraded FCS. The first prototypes were ready by 2017, were thoroughly tested by the military and the first production vehicles are, as of 2020, rolling off the assembly lines in Lima, Ohio.
Player Recommendations[]
This tank is best played as a formidable hull down vehicle, but lacks the mobility to exploit breakthroughs. Within its tier, it is one of the least mobile of the MBTs, but makes up for this with strong turret armor and substantial frontal hull armor.
Cons
- Lowest upgraded acceleration and top speed of the T2 MBTs
- Weak side hull armor
- Poor hull and turret traverse
Upgrade Suggestions
The Improved Laser Rangefinder increases the accuracy of the gun, and leads to improved APDS and HEAT shells. Improved Ready Racks will allow a player to keep a larger volley of fire over the standard setup, allowing it to excel as a defensive lynchpin and armored spearhead.
Retrofit Suggestions
- Advanced Muzzle Reference System
- Augmented Optics
- Improved Gun Breech
- Improved Pioneer Tool Kit
- Improved Spall Liner
- Commander: Juan Carlos, to improve the aim speed and crew stats.
- Driver: Spin to Win, Off-Road Driving
- Gunner: Sharpshooter, Do the Twist
- Loader: Rapid Fire, Explosive Shells/Preparation
Player Recommendations[]
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Accurate gun/good gun-handling
- Best acceleration, hull and turret traverse of T10 MBTs
- High top speed (Can keep up with AFVs)
- DPM is actually one of the highest (thanks to its fast reload)
Cons
- Dismal alpha
- Low HP
- Vulnerable LFP
- Limited gun-depression, and elevation
Retrofit Suggestions
Improving reload speed to compensate for the low alpha is a must. Next, improve a choice of repair speed or increased HP (especially Filter Systems, which improve already good acceleration).

Player Recommendations[]
Featuring the devastating firepower characteristic of Russian MBTs, the T-90A is mobile, powerful, and deadly. With the highest damage potential of any tier 8 MBT, alongside excellent mobility in rough terrain, the T-90A is perfectly made for flanking and brawling. Attacking more armored MBTs from the side and rear is the specialty of the T-90A, which when used properly makes it one of the most dangerous vehicles on the battlefield.
Cons
- Poor hull armor
- Very poor gun depression
Upgrade Suggestions
Upgrading to the V-92S2F Diesel Engine will greatly improve the mobility of the T-90A, so this should be researched as early as possible to improve the flanking capability of the vehicle. Firepower upgrades such as ammunition and modules are important in the long run, but should not be focused early due to their high research cost relative to mobility and protection upgrades.
