The Game Review

Last Year: The Nightmare is set in 1996. The game takes place on Halloween where five high school kids find themselves trapped in a nightmare version of their high school. The game has some of that 90’s style including plenty of 90’s ‘tude and that is awesome.

This is a game for six players. There are five high school kids and each one represents a different class. Chad is the popular football team quarterback. Nick is nerdy and a brain. Troy is the cool kid.

Sam is geeky and feels invisible and lastly, we have Amber the prom queen and the mean girl of the bunch. Aren’t these all just stereotypical high school characters? Well yes they are and that is the point and that is their charm. Their interactions are awesome and certainly feel like something you would see in a 90’s horror movie like Scream, The Faculty and so on.

The Killers in Last Year: The Nightmare

One player also gets to play as a supernatural serial killer! As of right now, there are three different killers to play as. The Giant is a big brute of a man who can kick down walls and nothing can stand in his way. Strangler is more sneaky and relies on stalking and sneaking. Slasher does some serious damage with an ax.

Playing as the killer is really cool as you can enter predator mode. This lets you despawn and respawn anywhere on the map as long as it out of sight of the high school kids. You can use this to screw with them, stalk them and plan your attack.

The Survivors

The high schoolers have to work together in order to survive. Currently, there are five of them:

• Chad, a good looking quarterback
• Nick, a nerd in glasses
• Troy, a strategist
• Amber, a mean prom queen
• Sam, an outcast geek

There are various objects that need to be completed before you can escape. Also, there are materials that you need to collect in order to craft weapons.

These are things like baseball bats, stunners and even explosives. You need to do what you can in order to survive the night. Last Year: The Nightmare is the kind of game where teamwork is what you need to do.

There is no good just trying to run off and do it all on your own or just like in a good horror movie. The killer is going to pick you off one at a time. The game handles this very well and is full of many of the clichés that horror movies tend to have, but it does this on purpose and it is one of the things that makes it so much fun.

The Bottom Line

To me Last Year: The Nightmare feels like the game that I wanted Friday the 13th to be, not that Friday the 13th was bad or anything. I love the 90’s and having a game set during this time and being so self-aware of it is really cool.

• Genre Savvy: Troy’s seen the most horror movies out of the classmates, making him the strategist of the group.
• Homemade Inventions: Due to being regular lethal weaponry being hard to get in a school. The students have to make their own from the materials and supplies already available in the school.
• I Let You Win: Before the escape sequence starts, a common strategy for the Fiend is to make a suicidal charge against the Classmates to get killed and switch to another Fiend more suitable for defending the gate.
• Improvised Weapon: Most of the Classmates’ basic weapons, such as baseball bats

• The Little Detecto: The scanners given to the Scout class, which can detect whenever the Fiend’s nearby, even in Predator Mode.
• Mighty Glacier: The Giant, who has the most health out of all the Fiend by far, but also moves the slowest. He can charge at the Survivors, though.
• Offscreen Teleportation: As long as the Fiend is out of the survivors’ line of sight they can disappear and reappear anywhere they please.
• Sentry Gun: Technicians can build these out of nail guns, tripods and cameras. They’ll shoot at the Fiend whenever he’s within range. However, they’ll shoot at each other. This is fixed in the Steam release.
• Sinister Minister: The Father, the new Fiend in the teaser for Chapter 2 of Last Year, appears to be this.
• Shotguns Are Just Better: Scouts can craft Shotguns, which can deal 80 damage at point blank. That being said, they only carry 2 rounds, come with a steep Scrap cost — and landing hits on the Fiend is harder than it looks.
• The Tetris Effect: After playing a couple rounds, you might find yourself avoiding skylights and ventilation grates in real life. With the addition of the Spider, you might be looking down at the ground quite a lot as well.
• Trap Master: The Fiend can place bear traps, rig trapdoors, and plant poison gas around the school to disorient the kids and set up for an ambush.
• Two Girls to a Team: Amber and Sam.
• Would Hurt a Child: Downplayed, since the survivors are all presumably in their mid- to late teens, but the Fiends (and by extension, the force that trapped them there) are more than willing to murder them in various, often brutal, ways.
• Year Inside, Hour Outside: Downplayed. Classmates occasionally remark that they’ve been inside the rescue closet for what feels like hours when rescued.
• You Will Not Evade Me: One of The Strangler’s special abilities is a chain that they can drag survivors away with.

Abilities

The Strangler’s ability is to use a chain to pull a survivor towards you and grab them. Once grabbed, you will quickly release them after a few seconds, with the timer depending on the distance you grabbed them from (2.5 seconds at minimum distance, 1 second at a maximum distance). The grabbed Classmate can escape during the chain pull or grab if the Strangler is shocked, blinded, or hit by a Smoke Grenade. If the Strangler has the player in a grab while their health is at 10 or lower, the strangler can instantly execute them. Missing this ability will reduce the cooldown to 10 seconds, otherwise, the cooldown is 20 seconds.

Ambush

The Strangler’s ambush is Choke Point. While in Predator Mode, the Strangler can hide in vents and instantly kill any Classmate that wanders too close by chaining their feet and dragging them into the vent.

• Отключаете или лучше удаляете в системе антивирусную программу.
• Теперь снова приступаете к установке приложения.

Отключите «Защитник Windows»

он тоже запросто может быть причиной появления этих ошибок

• Открыть «Центр безопасности Защитника Windows» выбрать настройки
  нажать на раздел «Защита от вирусов и угроз».
• После нужно нажать на «Управление настройки» в открывшемся разделе
  спуститься до пункта «Параметры защиты от вирусов и других угроз».
• В новом окне отключаете «Защиту в режиме реального времени» и следом «Облачную защиту» чуть позже система вновь включить защитник, но у вас будет время
  проверить игру на наличие ошибки.
• И если окажется, что проблема действительно заключается в «Защитнике Windows», тогда необходимо добавить
  exe-файл игры в список исключений этой программы.

Воспользуйтесь чистой загрузкой

• Открываете в Windows 10 окно «Параметры», используя меню

• Далее открываете раздел под названием «Приложения» переключаетесь
  на вкладку «Автозагрузка», где необходимо проблемный exe-файл и отключить его.

Проверьте целостность файлов

системных файлов

• Откройте «Командную строку» от имени администратора (для этого в поиске просто введите «Командная
  строка).
• И как только откроется соответствующее, окно введите команду sfc /scannow после чего нажмите

  все найденные ошибки будут автоматически исправлены.

  изменить значение опции с 1 на 0 после необходимо применить
  настройки и перезагрузить систему.

Другие способы

• В обязательном порядке попробуйте вручную установить драйверы для графического процессора. Причём это
  касается не только интегрированной видеокарты, но и дискретной.
• Проверьте наличие всех актуальных распространяемых пакетов «Visual C++», поскольку это программное
  обеспечение влияет на многие процессы.
• И, наконец, иногда причина этих ошибок заключается в службе «Microsoft Office Click-to-Run» – специальная
  технология Microsoft, которая сокращает время, необходимое для установки Office. Поэтому рекомендуем удалить эту
  программу и проверить игру на наличие ошибок.

Tips

Classmates

• Don’t be fooled by the Strangler’s low health — even without his Chain Grab, the Strangler’s Claw attack is relatively quick and easy to land compared to the other Fiends’ attacks, and can down a Classmate in 5 hits. As with other Fiends, it’s best to take him on as a group.
• If you see a long line of traps, it is likely that the Strangler is waiting at the other end. The Strangler is especially dangerous around traps, as he will be able to deal 40 damage to a Classmate if he drags him into one before they are released. Try to find a way around the traps, or use the Nimble Feet spell.
• Watch out for the Strangler on high areas — unsuspecting Classmates can be dragged and pushed off for an easy kill. Using the Feather Fall spell and/or barricading exits to the outside of high areas can help mitigate this — though the former will still leave you separated from your teammates.
• Exercise caution when using Pipe Bombs and Molotovs against the Strangler. Not only will his high speed make it easier for him to dodge, but he can also use his Chain Grab to drag the Classmates into the line of fire and turn your own weapons against you.
• Keep in mind that the Strangler can instantly execute a Classmate if he’s grabbing them and they are below 10 Health. Seek cover if you are close to death. Likewise, if one of your Classmates is around 10 Health, prepare to free them immediately if they are caught.
• The Strangler can be a significant nuisance if he is picked during the escape sequence. Being grabbed in the escape area generally spells doom, as all escape areas have drops for him to shove you off, killing you (or at least slowing you down enough for the door to close). Always be sure to pack a Smoke Grenade or a Shocker as a preventative measure.
• The Strangler can shove Classmates into trapdoors to kill them (or at least separate them from their team). Be cautious around trapdoors — or better yet, barricade them off.

Fiends

• The Strangler thrives in narrow hallways. Bear trapping the entire hallway can make it very difficult for Classmates to cross, allowing you to grab one classmate and deal substantial (if not terminal) damage to them before they can crouch-walk across.
• The Scout should generally be your first target. Aside from the Shocker, a Tracker flash is the only way for the Classmates to interrupt a grab. Targeting them first will make it much harder for Classmates to escape you.
• You are unable to move or turn when dragging a Classmate and have very limited movement while grabbing one making you very vulnerable to attacks and blinds. Lay some traps around yourself before attacking to slow down the Classmates.
