Remastered
On January 11, 2018, Ubisoft officially announced the upcoming release of Assassin’s Creed: Rogue Remastered. Set for March 20, 2018, Rogue Remastered retouched Rogue‘s graphics for Xbox One and PS4. With Rogue originally released for Xbox 360 and PS3 and Unity for the then-next generation consoles, many players had to choose whether to play one or the other; by upgrading the game for the current systems, people who missed Rogue could play the missing sequence in the Kenway saga. The re-release included all of Rogue‘s previous downloadable content, from the bonus missions The Armor of Sir Gunn’s Quest and The Siege of Fort de Sable to the weapons packs. Exclusive to this edition were legacy outfits for Shay based on the Medjay and Hidden One Bayek of Siwa from Assassin’s Creed: Origins,Jacob Frye from Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, and Aguilar de Nerha from the movie Assassin’s Creed.

Controversy
The development team had intended for players to choose the co-op characters’ gender, but it was abandoned due to time constraints. «It’s double the animations, it’s double the voices, all that stuff and double the visual assets», Amancio explained. «Especially because we have customizable assassins. It was really a lot of extra production work.»
This caused an immediate uproar of anger from many fans of the series. Even Assassin’s Creed III animation director Jonathan Cooper criticized this reason, stating, «In my educated opinion, I would estimate this to be a day or two’s work. Not a replacement of 8000 animations», explaining «Walk/run cycles and idles are the easiest way to define a character. Everything else is androgynous.» He also revealed Aveline de Grandpré shared more animations with Ratonhnhaké:ton than Edward Kenway did.
In response, Ubisoft issued the following statement:
- «Assassin’s Creed Unity is focused on the story of the lead character, Arno. Whether playing by yourself or with the co-op shared experiences, you the gamer will always be playing as Arno, complete with his broad range of gear and skill sets that will make you feel unique. With regard to diversity in our playable Assassins, we’ve featured Aveline, Connor, Adéwalé and Altaïr in Assassin’s Creed games and we continue to look at showcasing diverse characters. We look forward to introducing you to some of the strong female characters in Assassin’s Creed Unity.«
The game shipped with many bugs and glitches, leading Ubisoft to apologize by offering the Dead Kings DLC for free. Later patches stabilized game performance and also allowed players to acquire legacy items without needing the companion app or an account on the Initiates website.

Gameplay
Assassin’s Creed: Identity primarily takes place in Florence and Rome during the Renaissance. New locations, and items, can be unlocked by playing through the game. The database returns, offering entries on historic monuments, characters and events.
The missions in Identity center around the Crows gang and the First Civilization. Missions are short and varied, generated from sixteen different mission types. Players can choose to hire friends and other players to help complete objectives.
Identity allows players to train, develop and equip two different Assassins. Players can choose from four classes: Berserker, Shadow Blade, Trickster and Thief. Each class has its own strengths and weaknesses. Assassins can be customized with unique outfits and color variations. Using the forging system, players can create new items and use it to customize their Assassin.
Identity supports tap-to-move, dual virtual stick controls and gamepads. Running on the Unity engine, the game features custom-made HD textures, shaders and models, as based on the Assassin’s Creed console games. It also includes a dynamic crowd system and lighting, as well as night, day and weather presets.
In order to effectively solve most enemies, the Kill Token can be gained by killing guards, which increases the meter by one bar; conversely, every injury in combat decreases the meter by one bar. Represented by a meter with three tiers. When the meter upon being completely filled, it grants Lo Sparviero the ability to execute the target.
Downloadable and additional content
An additional singleplayer mission, «Secrets of the First Pyramids», was originally available via pre-ordering the game and was then released through Ubisoft Club, too. The Deluxe Pack, included in the Deluxe Edition of game, gave access to the «Ambush At Sea» mission, 3 bonus ability points and the Desert Cobra Pack.
Legacy outfits, outfits worn by previous Assassin protagonists, are also available for use in the game.
Ubisoft also announced a Season Pass, which included the Calamity Blade weapon and the following content:
- Horus Pack
- Roman Centurion Pack
More single-player DLC that has been added post-launch includes:
- The Hidden Ones, released on 23 January 2018; features Bayek and his Assassins traveling to a new region, the Sinai Peninsula, occupied by a Roman force, several years after the events of Origins.
- The Curse of the Pharaohs, released on 13 March 2018; featured Bayek going on a quest in the Valley of the Kings against mythological creatures and dead pharaohs.
In addition to the post-launch DLC, Ubisoft also announced the following content and activities that were made available to all players:
- Trial of the Gods, which allow Bayek to face against Egyptian gods in boss battles during special timed events, and receive valuable rewards for victory.
- The Nomad’s Bazaar, which sees Reda, a wandering merchant who would provide daily quests for Bayek to complete to earn exotic mystery rewards.
- Photo Mode, which allows players to capture images and share it with the community directly from the game.
- Horde Mode, where players can fight endless waves of enemies in the Gladiator Arena.
- Discovery Tour, released on 20th February 2018, which removed all combat and allowed players to go on a guided and educational tour on Egypt and its history.

History
The five brothers of the Guillemot family founded Ubisoft as a computer game publisher in 1986 in Britanny, France. Yves Guillemot, the former chairman and CEO, soon made deals with Electronic Arts, Sierra On-Line, and MicroProse to distribute their games in France. By the end of the decade, Ubisoft began expanding to other markets, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany. From there, Ubisoft became a publicly traded company in 1996 and continued to expand to offices around the globe, opening locations in Shanghai and Montreal.
In December 2004, a rival game corporation Electronic Arts purchased a 19.9% stake in the firm, an action Ubisoft referred to as «hostile» on EA’s part. The next year, Ubisoft acquired a part of MC2-Microïds (Microïds Canada) and integrated it into their Ubisoft Montreal branch.
On November 10, 2008, Ubisoft acquired Massive Entertainment.

Trivia
- Altaïr’s voice in Bloodlines is different from his in Assassin’s Creed, possessing a Middle Eastern accent that was not present in the previous game. This accent would later be present in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.
- While Desmond does not make a physical appearance within the game, the tutorial segment mentions the Animus user as Subject 17, Desmond’s subject number.
- The design for the throwing knives has been altered. In the first game, it is simply a flat knife, but in the game, it now possesses a cylindrical hilt and a four sided blade.
- Throughout the game, Altaïr’s model is rendered without the short blade’s sheath on his back. This creates a minor visual glitch in the animation, causing Altaïr to reach for his back when drawing (and returning) the short blade, even though nothing is there.
- Except for the sixth Memory Block, a cut-scene played at the end of each Block depicting Altaïr writing down his thoughts in his personal journal; the journal that would later become the Codex. The exact time and date this occurs is debatable, but based on what is written in the Codex, it is more likely that he began to work on it after the events in Bloodlines
However, some entries from the Codex show that Altaïr wrote entries before his time on Cyprus.
, due to conflicting events.
- In each Codex entry, Altaïr wrote on the following subjects, in chronological order:
- His time with the Apple of Eden.
- His opinion and observations about the Apple of Eden’s creation and origin.
- The common man’s natural instincts that results to violence.
- The origins and legacy of the First Civilization.
- His confrontation with Al Mualim.
- The chaos that surrounded life, and life’s purpose.
